True North Housing Alliance

Organization Description

At True North Housing Alliance, we meet people where they are on their path to making a better life for themselves. We offer a spectrum of services that move people forward and out of homelessness in Butte County with compassion, dignity and accountability.

Program Information

True North Housing Alliance operates multiple tiers of supportive housing to precariously housed and unhoused populations in Butte County. Our Torres Shelter is the only year-round shelter in Chico, with services including a comprehensive intake assessment. Guests, when ready, are able to secure comprehensive case management services that connect them to mental, physical, chemical dependency and other health issue support. We serve a wide array of clients, including families, individuals, youth, and elderly adults. Emotional support, life skills, and vocational training programs are available. As such, interns have the opportunity to receive a holistic internship experience. Hours and service opportunities are flexible. Interns will receive comprehensive individual and group supervision to assist them in meeting their goals and understanding their roles as ethical social workers.

Ideal interns will be flexible and adaptable to the dynamic and fluid work associated with working with vulnerable populations. Interns must be willing to learn and be open to feedback from staff/team. Interns should be driven by ideals associated with social justice and the social work Code of Ethics.

Travel may be required occassionally to conduct client home visits so having a car with evidence of insurance is required.

Health & Safety

As the population we serve is underserved and marginalized, they are vulnerable and often have many physical and behavioral health needs. They may be verbally aggressive and may come off as resistant. As a community shelter and communal living space, interns may be exposed to certain communicable diseases - all CDC, state, and local guidelines are followed in regards to the COVID-19 virus.
