SAGE Campbell specializes in many areas of veterinary medicine using the most current knowledge and treatments available to ensure the highest standards of care for pets. This is made possible through board-certified specialists in surgery, anesthesiology, internal medicine, neurology, oncology and emergency & critical care. We also have a great team of veterinary nurses & assistants, client service coordinators and administration.

Program Information

Meet with clients or make follow-up contact as requested by staff to provide short term, supportive counseling during patient (pet) emergency, hospitalization or specialty appointments; Support clients during end-of-life decision making for their pet and during euthanasia if requested; Provide pet loss counseling and grief education/support to clients; co-facilitate pet loss support group; Link clients with community resources; follow-up on referrals as indicated; Administer assessment tools as needed including but not limited to quality of life, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideations; Provide information and consultation to staff as needed re: clients or distressing scenarios (debriefings); Develop resources for practice and present topics relevant to veterinary staff (compassion fatigue, communication, self-care, etc.); Maintain proficient documentation as required by hospital policy.

Health & Safety

Students will work among sick cats and dogs. Students will not restrain and will minimally handle the animals; students will be trained on basic safety around animals. There are biological and chemical hazards in the hospital which students will not touch, be exposed to or interact with.
