New Los Angeles Charter Elementary School
Mission New Los Angeles Charter Elementary School (“New LA Elementary”) develops a diverse community of students who are passionate about learning, engaged in their community, and have respect for themselves and others. Vision New LA Elementary cultivates future civic leaders through rigorous project-based learning and hands-on commitment to social justice, teaching students skills that will enable them to thrive and ensure advanced academic success. The school nurtures and trains students who understand how to work together to solve problems, changing their own lives as they change the community around them. New LA Elementary serves over 200 students in grades TK-5. With small classes (25 to 1), a diverse student body, and attentive teachers, New LA Elementary is a nurturing standards-based school. New LA Elementary has a rigorous curriculum, fosters respect for human life, and provides relevant life experiences. The culture of the school creates a shared sense of mission, one that reinforces in our students a love of learning, a commitment to social action, and a deep respect for others. Curriculum Project-based and student-centered learning Balanced Literacy Instruction: Readers and Writers Workshop Math: Cognitively Guided Instruction methodologies Science: Kit-based experiments, full transition to NGSS, environmental awareness Social Studies: integrated with language arts, social justice embedded Computer Coding: taught with a partner organization, professional development provided Arts Integration: partnering with arts education organizations to provide art both integrated with regular curriculum and in specific arts classes.
At this time the following Covid-19 safety protocols are in place: All staff, providers and volunteers are required to fully vaccinated against Covid-19 Weekly Covid testing (PCR) is provided on site and required by all. If not on site during our testing day students will be required to test every 7 days and submit results. Entry screening questions and temperature check daily upon entry. Masking currently highly recommended indoors. PPE can be provided as needed. Air filters in each room/office and upgraded ventilation systems. ***We continue to monitor state, county and district guidance and make changes accordingly. We do not know if the above protocols will be the exact protocols that will be in effect for the 2022-2023 school year.

School operates 5 days a week M-F. Gates open at 7:15AM and school starts at 7:50AM. Dismissal is at 2:20 M, W-F and at 1:20 on Tuesdays. The first Tuesday of the month is a minimum day and school ends at 12:35. There is an after school program every day and the school remains open until 6:00PM. Students can be on site any time during the open hours.
