Siskiyou County Behavioral Health

Program Information

The Behavioral Health Division provides a broad range of mental health and substance use disorder services. Specially trained county behavioral health staff members provide services in cooperation with community agencies and private health care providers. Behavioral Health serves seriously mentally ill adults and emotionally disturbed children, people of any age in a major crisis, and those whose lives are impacted by the use of drugs and/or alcohol. Individuals who are eligible for Medi-Cal under a managed care plan called the Mental Health Plan (MHP) are eligible for services at Behavioral Health. Services can assist clients with improving their family and social relationships and life functioning.

This is an in-person unpaid internship in Mt. Shasta, CA. Student interns would need to be able to commute to the area 2-3 days per week.

BSW Senior practicum students will be assigned a caseload of seriously mentally ill clients who have unmet needs, including accessing community resources, applying for State and Federal assistance programs, linkage/transportation with resource providers, housing assistance, and much more. We train our case managers on modalities such as grounding and breathing, mindfulness, CBT skills, and trauma-informed care.

MSW students learn everything clinically necessary for serving our population: assessment, treatment planning, individual and group therapy, and working in an interdisciplinary team.

Both BSW and MSW candidates should be self-starters who are able to work independently with a diverse population
(severely mentally ill, LGBTQI, older adults, co-occuring substance use, etc.).

Must have intermediate to advanced computer skills, a high degree of organizational ability, and a strong desire to work with our diverse client population.

Supervision and performance expectations are highly structured, including training and regular meetings with: direct supervisor, interdisciplinary teams, and Agency-wide staff.
