Opportunity Summary 

As part of our River Assessment Field Team (RAFT), The Riparian Data Mapping Field Service Learning Student will assist in surveying and mapping The San Diego River. This person will help to monitor for and map the presence of homeless encampments, trash, stormwater debris and other types of litter found within the sensitive habitats of the San Diego River watershed. They work together with staff and other volunteers.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Students will help to create a better and healthier future for the San Diego River, be a part of an amazing team of passionate staff and volunteers dedicated to the protection of the river, and help make the San Diego region more environmentally aware and engaged! They will gain experience working in a well-established, successful environmental non-profit. Class credit is available, if offered by your learning institution. Students will help bring services to a vulnerable population during a public health crisis, gain experience in leadership and project management, database management, environmental field operations, entry-level GIS, and of course build up your resume!

Opportunity Training 

All training is provided to the student during regular service learning hours. No experience is necessary!

Opportunity Application Instructions 

Resume and cover letter is required. Once approved, the program manager will do a short, informal interview with the student to determine if this service learning placement is a good fit for both them and us.
