Recreation Therapy InternAt — Baywood Court
Students will have the opportunity to complete their 600 hours of the internship requirement. Also, will be able to gain experience in 3 different levels of care. They will be able to participate in and contributes to the planning of recreation therapy services and programs that are geared toward the geriatric population. The student will have the chance to participate in the study group that is led by a Certified Recreation Therapist weekly to prepare for the NCTRC exam.
By the end of the internship, interns will be able to gain knowledge regarding facilitating and leading programs. They will gain an understanding of the process of care planning and creating a care plan for residents. Also, they will gain experience in the conducting assessment and implement treatment with a Recreation Therapy staff.
Interns will spend 2-3 weeks shadowing staff and other interns in performing any given tasks. Recreation therapy staff will be supervising and assisting interns during these tasks until staff or interns are confident enough to lead independently.
Interns will be working with residents with different behavior issues during programs there's a chance that residents might be triggered which leads to physical and verbal outbursts.
The Recreation Therapy Staff will contact students for either an in-person or a phone interview. Once the Recreation Therapy Staff provides the student with an offer letter, the student will have 2week to inform Recreation Therapy of accepting the position. Then staff will provide information regarding TB, Live scan, and orientation date to the student. Students will need to provide a professional selfie of themselves for their intern badge and proof of covid vaccination.
