Organization Description

Richard J Donovan Correctional Facility (RJDCF) is one of the CA Deptartment of Corrections and Rehabilitation facilities that houses approximately 3000 inmate-patients. RJDCF has one of the largest health care systems in all of the CDCR institutions, with a large mental health department who employes recreational therapists amongst its staff which also include psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. The mission of the California Correctional Health Care System (CCHCS) is to reduce unnecessary morbidity and mortality and protect the public health by providing inmate-patient timely access to safe, efficient, health care, and coordinate the delivery of medical care with mental health, dental, and disability programs. CCHCS strives to facilitate the successful reintegration of the individuals in our care back to their communities equipped with the tools to be drug-free, healthy, and employable members of society by providing education, treatment, rehabilitative, and restorative justice programs, all in a safe and humane environment.

  • HIGH RISK: Students will be working with "behaviorally challenged" populations
  • HIGH RISK: Students will be working with individuals who have a known criminal background or history of violent behavior
  • RISK: Physical Recreation - Risk includes but is not limited to: sprains, strains, bruises, gym equipment, falling
  • SAFETY (HIGH RISK): The location can be described as a high-crime area.
  • SAFETY (HIGH RISK): There have been incidents of criminal activity at the organization or site(s) within the last year.
  • SITE REQUIREMENT: Students are not allowed to take pictures or video.
  • SITE REQUIREMENT: Students will be asked to sign a confidentiality waiver.
