Organization Description The Grass Valley School District is a multi-faceted community passionately committed to developing personal excellence and preparing each individual for the future through a strong academic program enhanced by a wide range of innovative choices in a responsive and safe environment.
Program Information Grass Valley School District (GVSD), is a small K-8 district. With only four schools, we are one of the largest elementary districts in the area. With over 80% of our students receiving free and/or reduced lunch, we are commintted to ensuring students receive a quality educational program, social emotional learning opportunities, and a safe and welcoming school climate. We were recently awarded the California Community Schools Partnership Grant which will allow us to partner with students in families collaboratively and collectively. We are committed to prevention which has manifested in the administration of a universal screener to identified students in need of mental health supports. We are building a team of qualified clinicians to assist in establishing wellness centers on all campuses. We will committed to reducing barriers by bringing resources into the school. Volunteers desiring to be a part of this vision while increasing thier skills in social work / counseling are welcome! Student can expect to gain a broad area of skills that include but are not limited to the intake process, assessment, treatment planning, individual and groups sessions, parenting classes, case management, subject matter expert training, collboration with community resources and practices (SARB, SART).
GVSD recognized that volunteers will come from diverse backgrounds and have varying skillset. Personal qualities / characteristrics that align best with our school community include a willingness to learn, self starter, organized, willingness to ask questions and ask for help, knowledge of crisis symptoms.
