Interpretive Docent- School Programs, Chitactac-Adams County ParkAt — Chitactac-Adams Heritage County Park
An Interpretive Docent is a trained volunteer that works under the direction and supervision of Park Staff to provide quality learning experiences for visitors at parks, visitor centers, historic sites, and interpretive facilities. Docents may work in either a lead or support capacity (depending on their level of training) and facilitate audience-centered experiences with an emphasis on skills needed to lead school field trip activities.
Students will be working with staff and schools (3rd grade students) in an outdoor setting.
Essential Functions: Conduct interpretive programs and assist with interpretive projects and activities.
1 service learner spot
Requirements:
- Background Check (e.g. fingerprinting/livescan, driving record)
- CPR Certification
Students will attend an onsite training of the school program as well as be provided additional training and enrichment opportunities. The student will shadow a school activity station and then will co-facilitate an activity. Students will also take a free course about the Foundations of Interpretation as part of their normal training.
The lead interpreter will be on site for additional training, resources and support at all times. The student will be supported and provided with opportunities for evaluation and feedback to continue to grow as a docent.
Docents will be provided First Aid/CPR certification initially and every two years thereafter – offered by the Parks Department. First aid kits are on site and emergency trained staff are available for assistance if an emergency happens.
