Program Information

This placement is for a BSW student.

Student will be involved with clinical assessment and care planning, providing counseling and emotional support, crisis intervention, advocacy and resource coordination, interdisciplinary collaboration, grief counseling and support groups, cultural competence, documentation skills, patient and family education, end-of-life education, ethical decision-making, and resources available in the community. 

The student intern should be: dependable, adaptable to unpredictable and dynamic environments, have comfort with both structured and unstructured workdays, willingness to jump into tasks and take initiative. Student should be able to maintain composure in emotionally challenging situations, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, have empathy and compassion in dealing with patients and families facing end-of-life challenges. Student should be open to asking questions and seeking guidance from experienced professionals, able to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, have respect for cultural diversity and a culturally competent approach, strong organizational skills to manage varied responsibilities effectively, demonstrate professionalism and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality, resilience, and self-awareness in the face of emotional demands, and an eagerness to learn and contribute to the mission of the agency. 

Student interns will work closely with grief and loss and must be prepared to travel with a social worker to patients homes in rural areas.
