Resiliency Empowerment Support Team (REST)

Program Information

Interns will learn about the policies and regulations for medi-cal approved operations through the county system. Interns will get hands-on experience working with Counselors as they engage with disadvantaged populations, especially those experiencing homelessness. This includes meeting potential clients in the field, performing needs assessments, referring to community resources or community partners, providing support as barriers to housing or mental health services are addressed, as well as providing direct resources. Interns will learn about current documenation requirements as well as county used computer systems. Care of and documentation of a small caseload will provede practice for care coordination with multi-disciplinary teams.

Interns who have initiative, creative problem solving skills, flexibility and good communications skills (must be able to speak their needs as well as ask questions) will be successful in this environment. Having empathy, compassion and some lived experience are also of great benefit.

Health & Safety

Interns will be traveling with counselor led teams to homeless camps, emergency shelters, parks, and bike paths in the Chico, Oroville, Paradise and Gridley areas. It is recommended they wear shoes that are slip resistant and puncture resistant.
