At Marquis Shasta, we offer residents the highest level of post hospital rehabilitation and long term care services.

Program Information

In this setting, we (social workers) are assigned a number of tasks, including:  cognitive assessments, mood assessments, new admit assessments, care planning, discharge planning, crisis intervention, working w/residents and their families w/strained dynamics, psychotropic medication audits, quarterly care plan conferences, setting up ancillary services (e.g., vision, dental, hearing, podiatry, psych),  attend and participate in interdisciplinary meetings, including behavior/psychotropic meetings w/the IDT, abuse investigations and reporting, end of life care and support, resident advocacy, and other tasks. 

Student must be able to work in a fast paced environment which is frequently stressful.  Student must be a quick learner w/motivation to learn and take direction. Being a self-starter and willing to talk to residents about difficult topics (e.g., death/dying, substance abuse, suicidal ideation, mental health issues of residents, resident's w/cognitive impairment and dementia, past trauma, etc).  

Health & Safety

Working in long term care can put a person at risk for being hit, although the risk is minimal if the person respects the resident's space and reads cues and distances themselves. The risk for harm is quite minimal in the social service department.
