Opportunity Summary 

This is an opportunity to learn about the process of asylum in the United States--how asylum-seekers and other migrants arrive in this country, the basic requirements for asylum eligibility, how to work asylum-seekers to prepare the strongest case possible, and to observe at least one asylum hearing in immigration court.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Students will have learned the basics of asylum in the United States; will understand the basic steps for applying for asylum, the basics of an asylum declaration, and basics of gathering supporting evidence including witness statements (when available) and country conditions reports, plus preparing an applicant for testimony or interview.

Opportunity Training 

Training will be provided for each step of the asylum process.
