Opportunity Summary 

This Education and Outreach Internship provides hands-on experience supporting a land conservancy’s mission through assisting with the planning and execution of outreach events, curriculum development, and content creation. Interns will collaborate with the education team to engage diverse audiences, enhance program materials, and promote environmental awareness. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about conservation education, eager to build skills in program coordination and communications, and comfortable working both indoors and outdoors. The internship offers practical experience in content creation, curriculum development, and nonprofit environmental education, perfect for students or early-career professionals seeking to expand their expertise in community outreach and educational programming.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

By the end of this internship, students will have developed practical skills in environmental education program planning, including designing and refining curricula tailored to diverse audiences. They will gain hands-on experience coordinating outreach events, from logistics to participant engagement, enhancing their project management and communication abilities. Interns will learn content creation techniques for educational materials and digital platforms, strengthening their ability to convey complex environmental concepts clearly and effectively. Additionally, students will deepen their understanding of local ecosystems, conservation practices, and nonprofit operations within a land trust context. This internship also fosters teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability, especially in collaborative settings involving educators, community members, and stakeholders. Opportunity Training 

Interns will receive comprehensive training to support their success in all assigned responsibilities. This includes a full-staff training session on event coordination, led by experienced team members, covering logistics, safety protocols, and participant engagement. For content creation, interns will work closely with the Outreach Coordinator to learn best practices for developing clear, effective educational materials and digital content. Curriculum development training will involve collaborative curriculum review sessions and workshops focused on creating and refining hands-on activities tailored to diverse learner groups. Although interns will work with children, Mandated Reporter training is not required, as they will always be supervised by staff members who have completed this training. This layered approach ensures interns are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully while maintaining a safe, supportive environment.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Interns will work both in office settings and outdoor environments, including trails and natural areas. Appropriate safety protocols for outdoor activities will be followed, including staying on designated paths, using proper footwear, and carrying water. Interns will receive a safety orientation covering site-specific risks and emergency procedures. Staff will supervise all outdoor activities to ensure a safe working environment.
