SportsCrit™ Lab interns are undergraduate students who are formally enrolled in an internship course and are completing structured learning experiences aligned with academic and professional development outcomes. Key Characteristics: • Assigned a specific “lane” or role aligned with professional competencies (e.g., Digital Media Intern, Curriculum Development Intern, Research Communications Intern) • Supervised by Dr. George-Williams and may receive mentorship from graduate students or field fellows • Project-based deliverables with weekly check-ins and a semester-long timeline • Emphasis on transferable skills: media literacy, communication, ethical storytelling, advocacy strategy, digital humanities tools, etc. • Must complete a reflective final project or internship portfolio
Develop critical thinking and research skills around race, sport, and equity • Gain experience in qualitative data collection, coding, and analysis • Apply social justice frameworks to real-world problems and sports discourse • Produce public-facing deliverables (e.g., infographics, podcasts, research briefs) • Learn professional skills related to project management, collaboration, and communication

The SportsCrit™ Lab provides a safe, inclusive, and mostly remote internship experience. Interns engage in digital research, media creation, and reflective work, with no physical or hazardous tasks involved. Emotional safety is prioritized through regular check-ins and access to mental health resources. All interns follow data privacy protocols, work with anonymized content, and use secure shared drives. In-person meetings, if any, occur on campus and follow university safety guidelines. Supervision is provided by Dr. Gyasmine George-Williams, and emergency contact information is shared during onboarding for safety and accountability
