Opportunity Summary 

The Grow Beach Garden (located on the Friendship Walk on campus) is run by Sustain U to provide fresh, free, organic produce to CSULB students via the Lauren Chalmers '83 Beach Pantry. Student Service Learners will have the opportunity to learn how to grow organic produce and other operations that involve running a community garden.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Student Service Learners will have the opportunity to learn how to grow organic produce and other operations that involve running a community garden. They will also learn the benefits of serving your community and those in need.

Opportunity Training 

Training takes about 1-2 hours. It consists of a few documents, including the Grow Beach Garden manual, a brief video, and an on-site training done by a Sustain U student staff member. All student service learners will understand how to plant, harvest, and maintain produce at the Grow Beach Garden.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Students will be using garden tools to complete tasks, which they will all be trained on how to use.
