BSW Intern- Case ManagerAt — City Net- Sacramento County

Opportunity Summary 

BSW interns will have the opportunity to gain hands on, practical experience serving individuals experiencing homelessness. Interns will have the opportunity to mimic the role of a case manager. Students will provide 1:1 case management service to their clients to gain housing stability and overall well-being. Students will learn to complete client intakes, assessments, and developing individualized case plans. Students will learn to document case notes, input services through HMIS data system. Interns will also develop skills in linking clients to community resources, housing navigation, advocacy, and service coordination, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. This placement provides valuable exposure to trauma-informed and client-centered practices, helping students understand the complex systems that impact homelessness and housing instability.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

By the end of the internship, BSW students will strengthen their professional documentation, communication, assessment, partner collaboration and case management skills, preparing them for social work practice in community-based human service settings.

Opportunity Training 

Students will have the opportunity to shadow different staff members with client interactions and administration tasks. Students will train on HMIS, the system City Net utilizes for documentation purposes and client engagement. City Net offers monthly trainings on case notes, goal setting, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, encampment safety, working with SMI and SUD, etc. We offer ongoing training throughout the semester for students to succeed in their role as interns.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

City Net believes in working in teamwork therefore our staff members work in pairs. Working in pairs with a student will allow student to feel comfortable and a different level of safety knowing they are not in the field alone. Our agency also provides a safety training when being out in the field and training for our drivers who drive our company vehicles as well as training for the passengers.
