Organization Description

A Better Way was founded in 1996 as a Foster Family Agency. Since then, we have grown into a comprehensive foster and adoption services agency, providing resource (foster) family recruitment and training, adoption services, parent advocacy, training, and mental health services to children and families in, or at risk of entering, foster care. Over the past 18 years, A Better Way has provided foster homes to more than 2,000 children and finalized 300 adoptions. We have provided mental health services to over 2,500 children, many of whom live in our communities’ most impoverished and violence-ridden neighborhoods. A Better Way’s mission is to empower children and families to develop the insights, life skills, and permanent relationships that promote their social, emotional, educational, and economic well-being.

Health & Safety

We are located in South Berkeley near the Ashby BART station with good access to public transportation. Our neighborhood is transient so there is a fair amount of activity around the office. Our office buidling is secured and all entrances are locked at all times. We provide interns and volunteers with common sense safety training.
