Service-Learning OpportunitiesAt — School on Wheels

Opportunity Summary 

School on Wheels matches volunteer tutors with children experiencing homelessness within the community. Our tutors work with students for at least one hour, once a week, providing support at a time of great stress. We tutor at libraries, schools, and shelters, and offer school supplies in addition to educational programs.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Family engagement skills, tutoring skills, and how to foster a positive, encouraging learning environment. They will learn effective communication skills and increase their sense of responsibility and commitment to supporting a child experiencing homelessness. Build compassion for a vulnerable population.

Opportunity Training 

Students will watch a 15-minute online orientation video, attend a virtual 2-hour introductory training session, and additional program and assessment trainings throughout their service. Students will have access to ASU nano courses that focuses on effective tutoring.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

TB Test may be required based on the needs of the partner shelter.
