Opportunity Summary 

This internship offers high school students a hands-on opportunity to develop leadership and coaching skills through involvement in a competitive cheer program. Interns will assist with practices, support skill development, and help promote school spirit at football and basketball games, while also gaining experience in team management and mentorship. Students will learn safety protocols, effective communication, and coaching strategies while participating in a program that also emphasizes competition and ambassadorship. This experience is designed to build confidence, responsibility, and real-world skills that translate to future careers in coaching, education, and leadership roles.

Opportunity Training 

Students will receive structured training to support their roles in coaching, as well as planning and leading events. For coaching responsibilities, training will include cheer fundamentals such as motions, jumps, basic stunting safety, choreography, and proper warm-up and conditioning techniques. Students will also be trained in effective coaching strategies, including modeling skills, providing constructive feedback, and supporting athletes with varying ability levels. For event planning and leadership, students will receive guidance on organizing practices and team events, including setting goals, creating structured plans, time management, and delegating responsibilities. They will also learn how to lead team activities, communicate expectations clearly, and adapt to real-time challenges during events.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

All employees and volunteers participating in this opportunity are required to complete mandatory safety trainings prior to working with students. These trainings include concussion awareness, CPR, first aid, heat illness prevention, and sudden cardiac arrest. This ensures that all individuals are prepared to recognize potential health concerns and respond appropriately in emergency situations. In addition to these required certifications, safety will be reinforced through proper supervision, adherence to school and district policies, and ongoing guidance during practices and events. Students will be trained on safe cheer techniques, including proper warm-ups, conditioning, and skill progression, as well as appropriate spotting and injury prevention strategies. Emergency procedures, hydration, and environmental safety (such as heat considerations) will also be emphasized. Clear expectations for maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive environment will be upheld to protect both the physical and emotional well-being of all athletes.
