Opportunity Summary 

This service-learning opportunity provides the student with hands-on experience in an interior design firm focused on creating enriched commercial and residential environments. The student will support various stages of the design process, including research, concept development, material selection, and client-focused planning. Through this experience, the student will observe and contribute to how thoughtfully designed spaces influence human behavior, well-being, and social interaction. The placement emphasizes user-centered design principles, accessibility, and environmental awareness, allowing the student to explore the relationship between physical environments and human development. Additionally, the student will develop professional skills such as communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and attention to detail while working alongside industry professionals. This opportunity is designed to foster an understanding of how intentional design can support long-term development, productivity, and quality of life across diverse populations.

Opportunity Training 

Students will receive training on construction site visit guidelines, client invoicing procedures, and the preparation of floor plan drawings. They will also be guided in meeting preparation, educated on relevant construction regulations, and instructed in proper space planning principles.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Hard hats and closed-toe shoes are required on construction sites.
