Opportunity Summary 

The Communications intern will gain an understanding of Port-wide communications and all that it entails (news releases, presentations, smartphone video production, social media, and crisis communications). The ideal candidate is interested in communication, social media, and/or journalism. A strong writer is desired.

Anticipated Projects:

• Develop social media content.

• Update media contact lists.

• Assist with Port Harbor Tours: interface and educate visitors about the Port of Oakland.

• Use written talents to communicate the “Port of Oakland” story.

Opportunity Training 

The intern will be trained on SharePoint and our social media platforms. They will also be trained on standard industry terms and projects.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Our Environmental Health & Safety Officer will provide a safety overview during orientation on June 15.
