At-Risk Youth & Justice-Involved Volunteer MentorAt — Pathway Humanity
Pathway Humanity is seeking compassionate, committed volunteer mentors to support individuals who are at-risk or justice-involved as they work toward building stable, successful futures.
Our 14-week mentorship program provides participants with weekly personal development support, career readiness guidance, and access to group sessions led by a certified therapist. As a mentor, you'll meet one-on-one with a mentee each week to offer encouragement, accountability, and practical guidance in areas such as goal setting, employment, education, and personal growth.
No prior mentoring experience is required—just a genuine desire to make a positive impact. Training, resources, and ongoing support are provided throughout the program.

As a volunteer mentor, you'll develop leadership, communication, coaching, and active listening skills while gaining experience working with diverse populations. You'll strengthen your ability to build meaningful relationships, support personal growth, navigate real-world challenges, and make a lasting impact in your community.
Volunteer mentors will participate in two in-person training sessions at our Concord office led by our Program Director and Certified Counselor. Training will cover mentorship best practices, effective communication, working with at-risk and justice-involved youth, professional boundaries, program expectations, and available resources to ensure mentors feel confident and prepared in their role.
The safety and well-being of both mentors and participants is our highest priority. All mentors will complete required training covering professional boundaries, confidentiality, mandatory reporting requirements, crisis response procedures, and appropriate communication practices. Mentors will have direct access to program staff throughout the program and are encouraged to report any concerns immediately. Regular check-ins, clear program guidelines, and collaboration with Contra Costa County partners help ensure a safe, supportive, and accountable mentoring environment.
Student Training or Experience Needed
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work with a broad, cross-section of people representative of the Bay Area.
- Ability to demonstrate empathy with a broad, cross-section of people representative of the Bay Area.
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team setting.
