The student at no point are alone in the clinic, as the outpatient floor is staffed accordingly. Students also are paired with preceptors at all times while on the floor.

Students are provided training on safe ambulation in assisting patients to and from locations in the clinic, and proper ergonomics. This is covered in virtual learnings in person and with a presenter, as well as in person with Clinical Educators. The machinery and equipment handled would be dialysis machines and pertinent supplies. Proper handling is provided during the 12 week course online & in-person. OSHA training is provided, as well as all personal protective equipment to be used, with training emphasizing their use per policy and procedure. Further safety standards include standard dialysis precautions, (full contact precaution healthcare PPE use) covered in training and upheld in policies and procedure.
