First Steps Recovery - El Dorado Hills

First Steps Recovery provides outpatient substance use treatment services within a multidisciplinary behavioral health setting. Through this practicum, the student will gain exposure to professional social work practice in addiction recovery and behavioral health. The student will have opportunities to develop skills in client engagement, strengths-based communication, and trauma-informed approaches while observing and supporting case management and care coordination activities. Learning experiences may include participating in team meetings, assisting with connecting clients to community resources, observing group and family programming, and supporting recovery-oriented services. Students will also gain experience in professional documentation, ethical practice, confidentiality standards (HIPAA), and understanding the role of social workers within an outpatient treatment program. These experiences will help the student build foundational skills in professional communication, collaboration, and service delivery within a behavioral health setting.
