Organization Description

The mission of the Chico Unified School District, a partnership of students, staff, families and community, is to ensure all students achieve high levels of academic and personal success, contribute to the community and confidently compete in a changing global society by engaging in quality educational programs that address diverse student needs and promote learning throughout life.

Program Information

The social work intern will have opportunities to develop skills in school social work, case management, individual and group support, SEL programming, family engagement, and community resource coordination. Examples of learning opportunities include conducting student check-ins, supporting students with attendance and academic goals, co-facilitating SEL groups, participating in SBIT and other student support meetings, assisting with referrals to community resources, and communicating with students, families, and school staff. The intern will also gain experience using trauma-informed, strengths-based, culturally responsive, and solution-focused approaches while learning about confidentiality, mandated reporting, professional boundaries, and ethical social work practice in a school setting. Additional opportunities may include developing SEL lessons or student resources, reviewing attendance data, supporting graduation planning, and completing a special project that addresses a need within Alternative Education.
