Opportunity Summary 

Hands-on experience in a healthcare setting while allowing students to strengthen their patient care skills. Intern assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, mobility, and toileting. They may also take vital signs, observer changes in a patient's condition, help maintain a clean and safe environment, and communicate with nurses and other healthcare staff. This opportunity helps interns improve teamwork, communication, time management, and professionalism while gaining a better understanding of patient-centered care. It is especially valuable for individuals interested in careers such as nursing, physician assistant studies, or other healthcare professions because it provides direct clinical experience and exposure to the daily responsibilities of healthcare workers.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

By the end of the CNA internship, students may gain stronger patient care, communication, teamwork, and time-management skills. They may become more confident with taking vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, transferring and repositioning patients, and following infection-control and safety procedures. Students may also learn how to recognize changes in a patient's condition and report concerns to nurses or other healthcare staff. The opportunity can also help students improve professionalism, empathy, responsibility, and their understanding of how a healthcare team works together to provide safe and effective patient care.

Opportunity Training 

Students will receive orientation and hands-on training before performing CNA responsibilities. T raining may include proper patient transfer, use of mobility equipment, taking vital signs, infection control, personal care, feeding assistance, fall prevention, and emergency procedures. Students will also be trained on patient privacy, professional communication, documentation, and how to report changes in a patient's condition. A CNA, nurse, or other qualified healthcare staff member will supervise students and provide guidance as they becoming more comfortable with their responsibilities.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Students must follow infection-control procedures, use proper body mechanics and transfer techniques, and able to lift minimum of 50lbs.
