Farm Lot 59 - On-Site At — Farm Lot 59

Opportunity Summary 

We are an urban farm located in the middle of Long Beach. We grow food (donated to local charities/shelters) and flowers (some donated to local shelters and some sold to help finance our program). We work hard to make a positive impact on those around us who may not have access to fresh veggies and seasonal fruit.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Why it's important to know where your food comes from, how it gets there, best food practices, proper tool usage, cleaning and storage and safe farm practices, local needs and resources for food services.

Opportunity Training 

FL59 is a very hands on organization. Students will work side by side with farmers in all roles to ensure safety and stated results of various goals.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Hat with wide brim, mask, sun glasses, gloves (optional, student supplied), CLOSE toed shoes, long pants, dressing in light weight layers is encouraged. Bring lots of water and snacks. Potential to lift up to 50#, Use of hand tools, Work with various soils and plant materials.
