General Recreation Internship or Aquatic InternshipAt — City of Newark
The General Recreation Internship will expose and train students in a multidisciplinary way to experience different areas of recreation within the City of Newark's programs. The student will learn and generate practical job skills from customer service to event planning, supervision, community building, youth and adult sports facilitation, etc. The Aquatic Internship will focus specifically on the aquatics aspect, from lifeguard and swim instructor-specific experience to operations, planning, and maintenance. Through this, the intern will be able to go into an entry-level position in any organization hiring once they have mastered the skills in this area. Candidates must be able to swim.
Departmental structure, conflict resolution and customer service, program planning and budgeting, marketing and outreach, and diversity of recreation within the community.
There will be a variety of training provided depending upon the internship. For General rec, there will be safety training, customer service training, cash handling training, computer training, and program-specific training. Each training varies in overall time and content. For the Aquatic Specific internship, lifeguard training and swim instructor training, as well as lockout/tagout and chemical handling training, computer training, and customer service training will be provided.
As this is a paid part-time position, all safety training would be the same as all other employees to ensure consistency and safety for all.
