Student InternAt — Centro Legal de la Raza
Centro Legal de la Raza is extending an internship opportunity to students who are looking to gain experience in legal services and non-profit work, policy advocacy, and issues surrounding housing, immigration, and employment particularly in the East Bay community. Interns should demonstrate a desire to work with and serve low-income and underserved or marginalized communities. We are also particularly interested in working with interns who have language capabilities in Spanish, Tagalog, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Farsi, Hindi, Punjabi, or Arabic. We are extending an internship opportunity for up to 6 CSUEB students. Students would be working directly with the staff of one of our main programs (1-3 interns / program). Hours worked are within a Monday-Friday 9 am-5 pm schedule, with flexibility to complete tasks and projects outside of those hours with permission from the direct supervisor. We will work with each student to try to accommodate their availability and hours needed. Student Interns at Centro will have the opportunity to engage in multiple service areas and to perform a variety of tasks. Some of these tasks may include: Creating program materials such as flyers and infographics; Communicating with clients and providing resources; Researching local resources from relevant organizations and services; Assisting in scheduling clients and/or staff; Collecting and screening documents; Conducting outreach and preparing for workshops; Note-taking or reporting of webinars and other events for staff; or Researching relevant policy proposals or actions.
The learning outcomes for Student Interns at Centro are: Practice skills for professional, respectful and compassionate communication Develop skills in outreach and community engagement Gain experience and understanding of direct client services and public interest work Learn and participate in addressing community issues surrounding immigration, housing, and/or employment Develop a deeper understanding of equity, social justice, diversity and inclusion
No criminal background checks are required. Training and on-boarding for interns will be designed and facilitated by the supervisor of that program with assistance from supporting staff. This will include an overview of Centro's services and procedures. Training will be ongoing and may be specialized to the intern’s particular interests, capabilities, and goals.
