Opportunity Summary 

As an intern at Un Mundo de Amigos Preschool (UMDA), students will have the opportunity to integrate and implement emergent curriculum ideas and experiences in an early childhood classroom. The student will learn to effectively manage behavior patterns of individual children and groups of children using positive guidance techniques. The student will acquire skills in interpreting observed behavior. The student will learn how to apply theory and research to classroom practice and learn how to assess and respect individual children’s needs. In addition, the student will learn how to promote a safe and nurturing environment for children.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

By the end of this opportunity, the students will: Demonstrate the ability to integrate and implement curriculum areas in an early childhood classroom. Demonstrate the ability to effectively manage behavior patterns of individual children and groups of children using positive guidance techniques. Demonstrate skill in interpreting observed behavior. Function effectively in a teaching environment. Apply theory and research to classroom practice. Assess and respect individual children’s needs. Promote a safe and nurturing environment for children.

Opportunity Training 

The mentor will provide ongoing support and supervision to students. The mentor will effectively train the intern and provide all necessary resources for the position. The mentor will develop learning objectives and goals with the student (student will provide a form). The mentor will monitor the intern to ensure they are completing assigned duties and staying busy. The mentor will evaluate the intern's progress and provide feedback often.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Some of our COVID-19 protocols include: daily health checks of children and staff, masks worn by children and staff and ongoing sanitizing of the materials and environment. In addition, the entire staff has received the COVID-19 vaccine.
