Skateboard Coach (Los Angeles)At — Bridge to Skate

Opportunity Summary

Bridge to Skate is a licensed 501c3 nonprofit organization that seeks to empower underserved youths through after school skateboarding based programming. This opportunity is for a coach/ mentor to create programming, provide lessons and occasional help with homework. This includes supervising small groups of typically 3-10 students with ages ranging from 7 – 17.

Bridge to Skate works with the Los Angeles Sherriff’s Department Youth Athletic League to provide facilities that include various Fresh Park ramps and a professional concrete bowl by Spohn Ranch Skateparks. All equipment such as skateboards and protective gear are provided. Volunteers do not need to be expert skateboarders as the majority of the students participating will be learning the most basic skills.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

This isn’t just about landing tricks; it's about using a skateboard as a gateway to creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving and confidence building. Volunteers will engage directly with youth, helping them explore everything from the physics of a perfect ollie to designing custom skateboard art, while fostering a safe and supportive environment using sports based youth programming. Whether you're a skater, a STEAM enthusiast, or both, your skills and enthusiasm will help shape the next generation of innovators and leaders. As an intern for Bridge To Skate, you’ll also have the opportunity to learn about what it takes to run a non-profit organization directly from the people that created our organization. Join us at Bridge To Skate and turn skate parks into launchpads for learning and personal growth!

Opportunity Training

On-site training will be provided by Bridge to Skate team members.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity

Skateboarding is an inherently risky activity that can cause bodily damage or harm. While we do our best to mitigate this risk through the use of proper protective equipment, volunteers must keep this in mind whether they are skateboarding themselves or supervising. Volunteers are expected to make every effort to ensure that all participants are performing within their skill set and conducting themselves in a manner that does not create hazardous or dangerous conditions.
