Opportunity Summary

This hospice internship provided an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in compassionate healthcare, with a focus on physical therapy. Working directly with patients facing life-limiting illnesses, I assisted with physical therapy exercises tailored to improve their comfort, manage pain, and support their quality of life. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, I learned to approach patient care holistically, integrating physical, emotional, spiritual needs into each care plan. My role involved helping patients perform gentle exercises that maintained mobility and minimized discomfort, emphasizing a patient-centered approach and empathetic interaction. I strengthened my practical skills in physical therapy techniques and my understanding of the role that physical therapy can play in comfort and dignity in end-of-life care. This internship has not only improved my technical skills but has also provided a broader perspective on compassionate healthcare, particularly in adapting therapy techniques to support patients in a hospice setting.
