Mental Health Resources InternAt — The Tiyya Foundation
The Tiyya Foundation seeks a detail-oriented and resourceful individual to serve as the Mental Health Resources Intern. This role focuses on gathering low-cost or free mental health resources that suit the needs of our community, coordinating recreational activities for families’ bonding and self-care needs, and supporting our Tea and Tots program, which focuses on family engagement, childhood development, and providing basic needs resources. This intern will also assist with the programmatic and administrative duties of the Tea and Tots program.
You will help design culturally sensitive and educationally enriching programs, ensure smooth operations, and foster a positive experience for participants, their families, and the broader community.
Tasks:
Program Planning and Coordination
1) Develop and implement activities for youth workshops and activities, ensuring they are engaging, enriching, and educational.
2) Create detailed timelines, checklists, and curricula for events.
3) Coordinate logistics, including venues, materials, setup, and cleanup.
Community Outreach and Engagement
1) Conduct outreach to schools, community partners, and families to promote programs.
2) Distribute promotional materials and maintain communication with stakeholders.
3) Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers.
Participant Supervision and Support
1) Supervise children and youth at Tea & Tots, ensuring their safety and well-being.
2) Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and program evaluations.
3) Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding participant progress.
Evaluation and Reporting
1) Collect feedback from participants and stakeholders to assess program success.
2) Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing outcomes and areas for improvement.
Family Engagement & Activity Coordination
1) Assist with planning and coordinating a family-friendly activity (e.g., zoo, museum) for Tea & Tots families during the summer months.
2) Support logistics such as outreach to families, scheduling, and coordination with staff and volunteers.
3) Collaborate with the Tea & Tots team to ensure a smooth and inclusive experience for participating families.
Mental Health Resource Support
1) Research and compile free or low-cost mental health and crisis support resources in Orange County and Los Angeles.
2) Create an organized and accessible list of resources for families, participants, and team members.
3) Support existing outreach efforts by focusing specifically on mental health–related services.
4) Respond to identified mental health needs shared by community feedback.
Training:
The student will receive one-on-one meetings weekly with their supervisor, as well as be given the opportunity to attend staff trainings and workshops.
LEarning outcome:
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to engage with community members with diverse backgrounds efficiently and empathetically.
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to effectively conduct research and compile local mental health resources within the community, differing in services offered, at different costs, and in different languages.
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to understand and comprehensively execute administrative tasks pertaining to coordinating community/family engagement events and resource referrals for individuals and families.
