Program Description:
Our House is a drop-in center for homeless youth ages 11-21 and an emergency shelter for youth ages 11-17.  We provide basic needs services (food, clothing, showers, phone, mail, laundry, etc.), counseling, life skills education,  medical services, legal services, and educational assistance.  Our goal is to help youth transition from life on the streets, gain the skills and confidence needed to do this, and learn to make healthy decisions. 

Clientele Served:
Homeless, runaway, and “throw away” youth ages 11-21.

Issues Program Addresses:
Homelessness and poverty, mental health, substance abuse, employment and educational issues, abuse (child, domestic, etc.), family problems, teen pregnancy/parenting, legal problems and incarceration, HIV/STD and risk reduction, LGBTQ issues

Intern Assignments:
Complete new client assessments, intake paperwork, and program orientation
Assist staff in supervising drop-in center and engaging youth in positive, recreational activities
Provide case management and/or individual and family counseling
Co-lead and plan psycho-educational and counseling groups
Provide information & referrals, represent agency at community events
Participate in street outreach

Intern Training & Educational Opportunities:
Various training opportunities are available.  The agency offers bi-weekly trainings on Wed. at noon.  We also access trainings through community organizations/agencies such as the shelter provider network, harm reduction institute, etc.

Other Special Placement Procedures or Requirements (Including Dates of Internship, Special Application Forms and Deadlines):
An interview with field instructor is required. 
Afternoon/evening work is required.
Working on Tuesdays is preferred.
