Jessica has 11 years of experience supporting and running a Wellness Center in San Francisco Unified School District and is bringing her experience and vision to TUHSD to develop these programs.  In Spring 2015 we will be planning for the start up of the program based on the results from the needs assessment.  6.  What are some of the practical training experience that your agency can offer students

We are creating a social- work based Wellness Center where students will help triage and work directly with students. We are building multidisciplinary systems to support students, offer on- site support and make strong linkages with community partners for health and mental health support. We will also have a prevention and education focus on issues relating to health, mental health, substance abuse and reproductive health services for adolescents.

We are in the process of completing a community needs assessment for Redwood High School. Working directly with the Wellness Director, the student/intern will have the opportunity to assist in the implementation of a community needs assessment at a school site where we will be starting a Wellness Center in Fall 2016. We are building capacity to develop and expand Wellness Centers to 5 school sites. We will be conducting key informant interviews, presenting to constituents, administering student, staff and parent surveys and focus groups that a student/intern can participate in.

Jessica Colvin, Wellness Director, has a MSW and MPH and a background in administration and planning from her MSW program. There are a lot of ways that students can get experience in the area of administration and planning. We will be starting a brand new program that will need a lot of oversight and management. We will also be starting new Wellness Centers at the other high schools within the Tamalpais Union High School District. Students will have ample opportunities to become involved in district policy, program planning, program evaluation, needs assessments and much more.
