Program Description:

Social Work Service provides comprehensive care for veterans in a variety of areas, including medical/surgical, ambulatory care, community-based outpatient clinics, mental health/substance abuse, and geriatrics and extended care.

Clientele Served

Veterans from a wife range of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds and needs.  Many veterans have multiple complex health care needs.

Issues Program Addresses:

Case management, discharge planning, and group and individual psychotherapy for a wide range of health (physical and mental health), social, and environmental challenges.

Weekly Intern Group Seminar

Weekly Individual clinical/administrative supervision

Training for computerized patient record, data management, and specialized clinical needs are available

interested students should contact Joanne Peters during the months of December and January, and she then begins a lengthy vetting process in February.  This includes sending in a resume, cover, letter, and responding in writing to a series of vignettes. Joanne Peters solicits interest in December from Social Workers who work in any of the 26 Social Work specialty areas at the San Francisco VA.
