6. What are some of the practical training experience that your agency can offer students?
Every week the social workers come together for a case conference in which one social worker presents a case for discussion. Interns will eventually be expected to do case presentations.
Once a month a clinician from Children’s Hospital Oakland comes to EBCLO to discuss presenting needs of 0-5 year olds in foster care.
EBCLO provides occasional trainings regarding a variety of topics.
Students will work continuously with different community organizations in the Bay Area. They will also work with multiple individuals within different communities in the Bay Area.
They will also be a part of the monthly all staff meeting.
9. How many students do you feel your agency can adequately supervise?
I will be able to take two interns (one from SFSU and one from Berkeley)
12. What attitudes/aptitudes/characteristics do you consider desirable for students placed in your agency?
I would like an individual who has someone who is a good writer. They should also have social work experience, be quite organized, and good with kids 0-18 years old. I would like someone with good communication skills and flexibility in learning new skills and systems. I would like someone who has a good team work attitude and yet can work independently.
13. What will be the student’s role/assignment within your agency’s structure?
The student will be a social worker in training. They will conduct home visits (shadowing, then supervised, then alone) and will work on social worker referrals, which require more intensive case management to address the urgent needs of the child.
