Program Description:
Unity Schools are a pair of college preparatory public charter schools in East Oakland, serving students from grades 6-8 (at Oakland Unity Middle School) and 9-12 (at Oakland Unity High School).

Primary Issues that the Program Addresses:
Providing quality, college prep education. Addressing the disparities in educational attainment between students of color and white peers, between low-income students and median-income peers, and between English language learning students and English proficient peers.

Students of color; low-income students; immigrant students; English-learners

Types of Services Offered by the Program:
Wellness Services offers psychosocial assessment, treatment planning, individual/group/family therapy, crisis intervention, case management, and staff training and consultation.

Intern Assignments and Learning Opportunities:
- Conduct biopsychosocial assessments of students referred for Wellness Services
- Provide individual therapy to caseload of selected students
- Provide group therapy to at least one group of students per semester, focusing on various topics such as depression, anxiety, community building, self-image, etc.
- Provide crisis intervention to students who are experiencing immediate social or emotional needs at school
- Provide case management and case collaboration services for the students on your caseload
- Refer students to community resources as needed
- Provide mental health and social work consultation to teachers and staff
- Keep appropriate documentation including assessment paperwork, treatment plans, progress notes, safety plans, etc
- Attend weekly individual clinical supervision and monthly group supervision

Applicants should have some prior training or experience working with multicultural and multilingual at-risk individuals and families. Applicants with over one year of supervised social work experience are preferred. We typically require a commitment for a ten-month period beginning in mid-August and ending in mid-June (school breaks and holidays not included). Basic knowledge of word processing and internet applications necessary. Spanish language skills a plus.
