Program Description:
The NVUSD Wellness Program Initiative is a program focused on the health, well-being and academic success of Napa's middle school school students at 4 campuses: American Canyon, Harvest, Redwood, and Silverado Middle Schools.
The Wellness Program Initiative is made possible through a federal Elementary and Secondary Counseling Grant and LCAP Supplemental funding from the state. The RtI4 Middle School Counseling Grant is a 3 year grant (2015 - 2018) which will increase mental health services to students at our four comprehensive middle schools.

Primary Issues that the Program Addresses:
Each middle school site has a Wellness Center and/or Team comprised of school counselors, school social worker, school psychologist, school nurse & health aid, and parent liaison who help students and their families navigate the complex issues in middle school such as stress, trauma, suicide, bullying, depression, self-esteem, and relationship

- Individual and Group school-based mental health services

- Multidisciplinary assessment and planning
- Community resource referrals
- Teacher consultation to support student behavior & social-emotional wellbeing
- School Wide events and professional development related to social emotional/mental health

Intern Assignments and Learning Opportunities:
Interns are a vital part of all Wellness Centers. Interns may be involved in the following activities
- Individual and Group school-based mental health services
- Case Management
- Participation in a multi-disciplinary team of support professionals to address student needs
- Connecting students with appropriate school and community resources
- Provide teacher consultation to support student social-emotional wellbeing

Other Specialized Training and Educational Opportunities:
- High quality clinical supervision
- Extensive professional development opportunities on topics such as: assessment, school-based treatment , crisis intervention, trauma, drug and alcohol, family work, play group therapy, termination, and mental illnesses
- Ability to work with diverse student population
