Program Description:

Chinatown Child Development Center (CCDC) is a comprehensive, outpatient community behavioral health clinic under the Department of Public Health, Community Behavioral Health Services. The clinic serves children, adolescents, and their families who are residents of San Francisco. The staff is multi-disciplinary, composed of psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists, and health workers. Most of the staff is bilingual and bicultural, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the clients served. Staff language capacities include: Cantonese, English, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Japanese.

Primary Issues that the Program Addresses:

CCDC provides culturally and linguistically competent Medi-Cal specialty mental health services to children, youth, and families of San Francisco. Some of the common mental health disorders treated include: anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, trauma- and stressor-related disorders, disruptive, impulse-control and conduct disorders.

Populations and Clientele Served:
|
CCDC serves children and youth under 18 years of age and their family members who request assistance with issues related to mental health, substance abuse, or co-occurring disorders. These individuals must reside within the City and County of San Francisco. We can provide services to individuals with Medi-Cal insurance, Healthy Families, Healthy Kids, and those without health insurance.

Types of Services Offered by the Program:
|
CCDC offers a full range of outpatient services and mental health promotional activities. Clinical services include: individual, group, and family psychotherapy; psychological evaluation; assessment; medication evaluation and treatment, case management, and consultations to schools and community-based agencies. Therapeutic activities are conducted within a framework of cultural sensitivity and understanding. Outreach to the community is done through participation in community health fairs, media projects, and consultation liaisons with other community agencies and organizations.

Intern Assignments and Learning Opportunities:
|
*Treatment responsibilities for 4-8 cases, depending upon the level of trainee’s training, experience, time commitment, and case complexity.
*Attend weekly individual supervision meeting.
*Attend group supervision meeting, if applicable.
*Attend case conferences, in-services and other trainings offered by CCDC or Child, Youth, and Family System of Care Training Program.
*Present at least one case at a formal case conference.
*Maintain timely and complete case records and other required documentation.
*Maintain confidentiality, follow mandated reporting laws, and continually assess for risks.

Our agency can take only one student, either first year or second year MSW student.
Due to our caseloads, the student needs to be bilingual and has the language capacity to conduct therapy in Cantonese.

There is a stipend (ranging from $1800 to $3500) with the City and County Behavioral Health Services for student of minority cultural background. Student is encouraged to apply, but there is no guarantee that the student will get it as the agency has no control over the selection process.
