Program Description:

As a strength-based community agency committed to serving clients across systems utilizing trauma-informed and culturally inclusive practices, we work collaboratively with parents, school administrators, YFS staff, probation officers, social workers, and community agencies to better support our clients with the many challenges they may be facing in their lives.  We work primarily with at-risk youth (ages 10 and up) and their families, but also provide short-term counseling to the residents of Union City around a variety of issues.

Primary Issues that the Program Addresses:

Agency specializes in providing counseling services to youth on probation and those exhibiting behaviors that might lead to future contact with law enforcement (601 and 602). In addition, counseling services are provided to meet a wide range of other presenting issues including depression, anxiety, school behavior problems, family conflicts, etc.

Populations and Clientele Served:

Ages 10 and up. Services take place in the school setting and at 1 of 2 clinic office locations

Intern Assignments and Learning Opportunities:

Interns/trainees are placed two days a week at one of the middle or high schools in the New Haven Unified School District and carry a case load of approximately 8-15 students who are seen in individual, group or family counseling. 

An extensive orientation process (approximately 50 hours) is provided (usually beginning mid/late August) prior to beginning the program.  There are also mandatory monthly in-service meetings/trainings around topics related to clinical issues.
