Organization Description

Metro Academies’ mission is to increase equity in college completion through engaging, supportive, rigorous, and socially relevant education. Metro Academy of Health was developed to support the next generation of leaders in health education in urban communities. Each Metro Academy is a 'school within a school' to give you an educational home in your first two years of college. Metro gives you personalized support for college success through in-class academic support and tutoring. At the core of Metro is a learning community made up of two linked courses each semester, pairing a general education course and a Metro Health course. In Metro Academy, you will build a solid foundation for college success and meaningful work in urban health and human services.

Program Information

Research and popularization of issues in education policy and education justice: This position involves research and writing in the area of education justice and education policy. We have a number of rough research documents prepared, and the task will be to deepen the research, develop solid citations, and then turn the research into easily digestible forms for a wider audience, creating shorter pieces, fact sheets and possibly an editorial cartoon and nifty video! We will also organize an in-person presentation of the material. Skills needed: self-starting and self disciplined; very good writer; excited about research in the areas of education policy and education justice. What you will learn and get practice in: Writing (technical and popular); project planning; and presentation skills.
