Organization Description

America SCORES provides elementary and middle school students with after-school soccer practices and games, as well as writing workshops each week, all of which are conducted by “coaches” from within their schools. Students compete regularly in literary and sports tournaments and are also required to complete a service-learning project as a team for their community. We train and support school staff to serve as coaches to deliver our program model. We also recruit and enroll students in the program and work closely with Beacon Centers, YMCA, Bay Area Community Resources, and regional Recreation and Park Departments to host Community Saturdays.

Program Information

Possible projects may include: Delivery of parent nutrition and physical activity workshops from established curriculum (California Department of Public Health Fruit, Vegetable, and Physical Activity Toolbox for Community Educators), assistance with providing content for bi-lingual weekly nutrition and physical activity newsletters targeting families of our program, assistance with health grant research and writing, as well as editing and enhancing student targeted health and nutrition education curriculum.
