Learning for Life is an independent study based school (non-profit orgnization) for 7-12th grade students who have not found success in traditional schools or need a more flexible arrangement. Student population ranges from 70-80 students, 55% under the poverty lelve, 23% Engish leawrner, 11% foster youth, 71% minority. MOst student face significant personal and/or family issues.
Services include middle and high school education. There are two fullt-time and one half-time teachers, two part-time tutors and the pincipal/head counselor at the site. Students meet invidiually with the teacher once per week and are to completed 15 hours of academics weekly. There is a computer lab on site as well. The facility is open M-F 8-5 for drop-in.
Program Information Assist both Social Worker and school-community liaison to provide basic assistance to 7th--12th grade students and their families: Health Care, Transportation, Nutrition, Housing, Employment, College and Career Readiness, emancipation, etc.
Interns will be able to assist in a variety of areas to support students both academically and personally. Interns can help facilitate the provision of basic needs for students at Learning for Life including improved nutrition, access to health/mental health services, housing, employment readiness support, and mentoring.
Assist in supervising teacher manage a caseload of 35 students, develop school resources, promote school-based wellness programs, assist the executive director to grow the NPO side of the operation, expand communications
Assist staff to improve Community Health (Assist teachers to enrich our health curriculum, arrange for outside speakers, support an athletics program, promote a school-based wellness program, organize fitness activities, etc.)
Assist the school's director with Nonprofit Organization and Administration (Grow the NPO side of operation, assist with the development and monitoring of our strategic plan, expand communications, and develop financial resources/grant writing)
