Century Villages at Cabrillo
CVC serves as steward, manager, and coordinator for the 27-acre campus community. CVC creates the physical and social conditions where collaborating programs can succeed in overcoming homelessness. As a social enterprise, CVC engages in property management, real estate development, and community development activities, all uniformly geared around the vision of breaking the cycle of homelessness.
CVC, like any neighborhood in Long Beach has experienced some criminal activity in the past year, from trespassing, to car break ins, vandalism and a few crimes against persons. We work with a security company to provide roving security and work closely with the Long Beach Police Department to respond to any concerns.
We work with veterans, families, seniors, and children who have experienced homelessness and a wide range of additional traumas. We have a wide range of opportunities available; students will be supervised by the staff working most closely to the opportunity they select. We work with veterans, families, seniors, and children who have experienced homelessness and a wide range of additional traumas. We have a wide range of opportunities available; students will be supervised by the staff working most closely to the opportunity they select. Students will never be left alone with clients during volunteer time. There are some volunteer projects that do not involve working with clients at all, and in those instances, students might be left unsupervised for small periods of time (for ex: sorting donations, program design, content development for clients, etc.).
Student will be assigned to a CVC staff person who they will check in with at the beginning of their shift and given instruction. They amount of supervision is dependent on the type of work the student is assigned, but they will always have access to a staff person while on site.
