Organization Description

MOWLB is a non-profit community service for persons unable to prepare adequate meals for themselves because of disability, age or chronic or temporary illness, thus assisting them to remain in their own homes. MOWLB provides home delivery of two nutritionally balanced meals per day at nominal cost and is available to all Long Beach and Signal Hill area residents, regardless of age.

Program Information

Volunteers are needed to help serve 2 hours one morning a week. Drivers, friendly visitors, food packers, office support. Application and Training video available on website.

Students will be contacted via phone to confirm the schedule of service hours.

All students, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation, are open and welcome to participate.

Health & Safety

Many of our volunteers and the majority of our clients are seniors over the age of 60. Depending on the volunteer position, students will work with staff, other volunteers as well as seeing clients during deliveries.

They are responsible for scheduling tasks to be done by individuals based on the needs of the office.Students work directly with a site manager/supervisor that oversees all activities completed by the students. They will check in and out with the supervisor giving daily debriefing reports.Due to the number of students that we host and the tasks they perform, some site supervisors may have more than 8 students at a time under their supervision.

All student activity is monitored by a site supervisor. Volunteers work in teams, as well, so that students are not alone on their delivery routes.
