First Gen Empowerment Project

Organization Description

The First Gen Empowerment Project provides information about college, financial aid, extracurricular activities, and future career opportunities to first-generation and immigrant students in California. We know that for many first-generation and immigrant students, life after high school can seem confusing and the path to college very complicated. You might be wondering what your options are after graduating from high school, and you might not have support or guidance from your family or from your school. We offer free workshops, leadership training, online advising, an essay editing program, and peer counseling training for students, all with the overarching goal of preparing students for whichever path they choose to pursue after high school.

Program Information

We offer a robust internship program every academic term for current undergraduate and graduate students, as well as college graduates. Opportunities range from creating resource guides for our website, managing our social media platforms, hosting virtual workshops for students and families, designing and launching leadership programs, supporting undocumented students, launching seasonal projects like Extra Set of Eyes (a college and scholarship essay editing program, which we launched Fall 2020), and helping us promote a thriving work culture through organizing regular community bonding activities, professional development opportunities, and weekly team check ins.

  • POPULATION SERVED: Students will be working with unsupervised with minors.
  • SUPERVISION: Students' supervisor be responsible for overseeing more than 8 people.
