Gilbert & Sullivan Society of SJ dba Lyric Theatre of San Jose
Lyric Theatre celebrates a diverse musical theatre heritage, with roots in Gilbert & Sullivan and other light opera. Since 1972, we have been honored to present more than 150 light opera and musical theatre productions, as well research and reconstruct a number of works previously lost to history.
We have a Code of Conduct which all show participants, including student interns, must sign and observe (https://www.lyrictheatre.org/_files/ugd/f74ac6_5fb7316e998c421aab25c7534...). We have a comprehensive COVID policy that mandates vaccination, masking of show participants (cast orchestra, and crew) at all times except when performing, and specifies appropriate response to cases of infection (https://www.lyrictheatre.org/copy-of-the-patter-post-newsletter). We have a contract with Red Flag Reporting hotline, available to all show participants and staff, including student interns. All harassment or discrimination cases are referred to an independent HR professional for investigation. (Investigations may include or be referred to appropriate SJSU staff members or processes, as directed by university policy.) We uphold principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all Lyric Theatre operations, and all our board members, staff, and directors are trained in DEI and anti-harassment/discrimination.

We do not have regular office hours. Our warehouse facility on Regatta Lane SJ is mostly used for storage and set and costume construction. Board members mostly work from home and we conduct most meetings on Zoom. During the run of a show, we rehearse in rented church halls and perform at the Hammer Theatre Center.
