Utah State Law Library
The State Law Library assist's the Utah Judiciary in their mission "to provide an open, fair, efficient, and independent system for the advancement of justice under the law." We assist the public and court staff by providing access to legal and court resources as well as guidance in the court process.
As a public library, we occasionally interact with patrons who have a mental condition that may make them behave differently then normal. Also, due to the high stress and emotions associated with court, occasionally this will affect the behavior of patrons. Also, while minorities generally do not come into the courthouse or law library without an adult present, we do have times where a minor (generally in their teens) will come in with questions either for themselves or a family member.
While this event did not happen in the courthouse, there was an instance of someone entering the courthouse with what appeared to be a stab wound that postponed court and closed some parts of the courthouse for a time. The event did not happen in the building.
Rules on photography in the building depends on the area of the courthouse. I am not clear on the current rules, but I believe that to film for commercial purposes we tend to direct people to the court's communication team, but if it is someone just filming in general it may be allowed for them to do so without previous permission.
